The summary of our reflection for this Tuesday is that following Jesus’ teachings and doing God’s will is what it means to be a follower of him, not bloodline or membership.
Today, there are many divisions and boundaries due to caste, religion, geography, language, culture, and rituals. There is a lot of nepotism and discrimination. Loyalty is frequently asserted as a right because of these things. This kind of thinking is also seen in the religious sphere. We see a lot of individuals identify as religious and pious based on their affiliations, positions, roles, activities, or leadership in groups.
Jesus emphasizes that loyalty, rather than membership or ancestry, defines a relationship with Him. It is about being part of a spiritual family on a higher plane. The primary requirement is to “hear God and do His will.”
A person who listens to God’s word and obeys His will knows that the Lord weighs their heart, avoiding haughty eyes and proud hearts. Someone who belongs to God never desires evil and is merciful towards others. Such a person is always listening to the cry of the poor. He/she strives to prosper and becomes abundant through diligent means, not relying on lying tongues. Such a person becomes acceptable to the Lord not only through sacrifices and religious practices but also through righteousness and justice.
